Highway to Hell

These last two days we have accomplished a lot. By spending plenty of time on the bus we have managed to travel from middle- lower Norway to upper-middle Norway. As our tour leader would say: 'happy days'. We were now within 100 kms of the Arctic Circle, but had to go through Hell first. Literally.

Before heading to Hell however we had one last chance to visit a Cathedral and repent our sins. Not just any Cathedral mind you - Trondheim is home to the largest, most ornate church in Norway. It is also one of the oldest, dating back over 1000 years and is where the Norwegian King gets coronated.

We invested in postcards so we could have some fun in Hell and send you all our best. On arriving in Hell we did post these farewell cards but a intimidating sign in Norweign attached to the front of the very noraml looking red post box didn't really reassure us that the postcards would ever make it to their destination.

We stayed the night in Steinkjer, where a music festival just up the river provided a soundtrack for our evening soccer game. We then decided to enjoy the last of the sun's rays at 11.30pm and go for an refreshing evening wade in the aforemetioned river.

From there it was another action-packed ride to Korgen - a town only famous because we have now visited. We stopped off along the way and saw some dubious 6000 year-old rock carvings, before trying both moose and reindeer sausage.

Norway is filled with 2 things, mountains and waterfalls, and yet for some unknown reason we always seem to stop for lunch in a dusty dirty carpark behind a dodgy looking petrol station. Today however our bus driver surprised us all. We were granted leave to eat our lunch at a gorgeous waterfall, we were even given time to walk around the rocks and feel the icy spray

But then it was back on the bus once again. Korgen was a small campsite but provided hours of entertainment for childish minds, such as a trampoline and icy waters. We practised once again for the polar plunge, which we will attempt to be brave enough for on Sunday. Finally we had great fun with the group battling our wits in a trivia contest and then settled in for a night of gin rummy ( and the winner is.... Megan! Yay!)
